Hello and welcome to my online portfolio. My name is David Canham, I’m an aspiring website designer based in the West Midlands, who recently graduated from the University of Chester with a 1st class degree in Multi-Media Technologies.

Multi-Media Technologies?

You may be thinking what exactly is a course entitled Multi-Media Technologies about, after all the term ‘multi’ makes it sound quite varied. This is both true and false. The course covered a wide range of topics including website design and development, mobile application development and video production. Despite this we had the opportunity to focus our efforts on particular elements of the course over the three years. I was very interested in Website development and design and so took modules relating to this, as well as focusing my dissertation on Website development.

Software I use

I mainly use the Adobe Creative Suite when it comes to website design and development. I create my designs and edit images in Photoshop and develop sites in Dreamweaver (although more recently I have been using Komodo Edit). I am also proficient in Microsoft Expression Web and have experience with Visual Studio.

WordPress

When it comes to website development I believe it is essential that the end user is happy with their site and are in a position where they can manage it themselves. That is why I focus on developing sites using the Content Management System WordPress. I was originally introduced to WordPress during my 3rd year at University and have been using it ever since. I believe WordPress is a very robust platform that has great support and an excellent community. Some may dismiss it as an extended blogging platform, but with the right configuration it can be used to create large and powerful websites.
